The notification relates to a proposed concentration pursuant to which (i) Air France-KLM (Paris, France) will acquire a 31% stake in and joint control of Virgin Atlantic Limited (Crawley, United Kingdom) within the meaning of Article 3(1)(b) of Regulation 139/2004, alongside Delta Air Lines (Atlanta, GA, United States) and Virgin Group (Tortola, British Virgin Islands) and (ii) Air France (Tremblay-en-France, France) , KLM (Amstelveen, Netherlands), Delta and Virgin Atlantic will combine their pre-existing transatlantic joint ventures.
Air France, KLM, Delta and Virgin Atlantic operate in the three main areas of the commercial air transport market, namely air transport for passengers, air transport for cargo, and maintenance, repair and overhaul services for aircraft.
As part of the concentration, Air France, KLM, Delta and Virgin Atlantic intend to enhance the scope of their cooperation in the provision of air transport services for passengers and cargo, by combining and expanding the Air France/KLM/Delta transatlantic joint venture with Virgin Atlantic/Delta’s transatlantic joint venture.
