SECTION 1.2
Description of the concentration
On 18 November 2010, the Commission received a notification of a proposed concentration
pursuant to Article 4 of Council Regulation (EC) No. 139/2004, by which Sasol Synfuels
International (Pty) Limited (“SSI”), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sasol Limited, and Qatar
Petroleum (“QP”) will enter into arrangements resulting in their joint venture, Oryx GTL
Limited (“Oryx GTL”) becoming fully functional.
The main business activities of the undertakings concerned are respectively:
1.1. SSI: the implementation of coal-to-liquids and gas-to-liquids projects globally.
2.2. Qatar Petroleum: Oil and gas exploration and production, refining and petrochemicals.
3.3. Oryx GTL: Production of diesel, naphtha and LPG.
