Description of the concentration
The notified concentration concerns the creation of a greenfield full-function joint venture that will be jointly controlled by Electricite de France, Nebras Power, Sojitz Corporation and Kyuden International Corporation. It concerns a gas fired combined cycle power project in Uzbekistan. The JV will be commercially operational only in Uzbekistan. It will not have any activities within, or affecting, the European Economic Area.
EDF is active on the electricity markets, and in particular in electricity production and wholesale, trading and supply, mainly in France but also abroad. In addition, EDF is active in transmission and distribution in France. EDF is also active in the gas sector as well as in the construction, operation, and maintenance of electrical plants and power networks and provides waste recycling and energy services.
Nebras is active in the energy sector (particularly clean energy). Nebras is a joint venture of the Qatar Electricity and Water Company and Qatar Holding LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Qatar Investment Authority.
Sojitz Corporation is a global conglomerate active in a variety of different businesses, primarily in the area of trading of goods and services, including in the energy sector.
Kyuden International Corporation comprises the overseas business of Kyushu Electric Power Co. Inc. and was created to utilise (in markets outside Japan) the Kyushu group's technology/expertise in the energy sector.
