Description of the concentration

COMP/M.5971 - PPC/ URBASER/ JV

The Commission has received notification of a proposed concentration pursuant to Article 4 of the EC Merger Regulation under which URBASER S.A. and Public Power Corporation S.A. intend to acquire, within the meaning of Articles 3(1)(b) and 3(4) of the ECMR, joint control over a new company which they will establish in Greece and which will be active in Greece in relation to waste management projects.

The business activities of the undertakings concerned are:

-- URBASER is a Spanish company active in the waste management services sector;

-- PPC is a Greek company active in the electricity sector in Greece;

-- the proposed joint venture company aims to be involved in all aspects of waste management in Greece.

The notified concentration concerns the waste management sector in Greece and does not raise any competition issues.
