SECTION 1.2
Description of the concentration
The Commission has received notification of a proposed concentration pursuant to Article 4 of Council Regulation (EC) No 139/2004 (the “EUMR”). On 26 August 2011, Braskem America, Inc. notified its intention to acquire the assets constituting the polypropylene business of The Dow Chemical Company.
The areas of activities of the undertakings concerned by the notified concentration are as follows:
• Braskem America Inc. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Braskem S.A. which, together with its affiliates, is a large petrochemical supplier.
• The polypropylene business of The Dow Chemical Company manufactures and sells polypropylene resins.
