SECTION 1.2
Description of the concentration
1.1. On 25 January 2012, the Commission received the notification of a proposed concentration pursuant to Article 4 of Regulation (EC) No 139/2004 (the Merger Regulation), by which PetroFina (a company belonging to the Total group of companies) will acquire the 35% equity interest of ExxonMobil in FAO, and thereby come to hold 100% of the share capital of FAO.
2.2. The business activities of the undertakings concerned are as follows: TOTAL: (i) base chemicals and commodity polymers, such as olefins (ethylene,
propylene), simple aromatics (benzene, toluene, xylene), styrene, polyethylene,
polypropylene and polystyrene and (ii) specialty chemicals, including resins,
adhesives and electroplating chemicals.
FAO: manufacture of base chemicals (ethylene and propylene) and their co-products.
