SECTION 1.2
Description of the concentration
The notified transaction is the proposed acquisition by INEOS of BASF's site at Seal Sands, Teesside, UK. The business activities of the undertakings concerned are:
-- the wider INEOS group comprises: INEOS Group Limited; INEOS Technologies Limited; INEOS Investments LLP; Vinyls Italia Limited; and INEOS Paraform Holdings Limited. The group is a leading global manufacturer of petrochemicals, speciality chemicals and oil products;
-- the assets to be acquired are used in the production of acrylonitrile and its by-products (raw acetonitrile, hydrogen cyanide and ammonium sulphate). The acrylonitrile which is produced is used principally by BASF for its in-house purposes. The site also produces adiponitrile and hexamethylenediamine but these plants are excluded from the transaction.
