SECTION 1.2
Description of the concentration
On January 19, 2009, the Commission received a notification of a proposed concentration pursuant to Article 4 of Council Regulation (EC) No. 139/2004 by which Abbott Laboratories, United States (“Abbott”), will acquire directly through a wholly-owned acquisition vehicle within the meaning of Article 3(1)(b) of the Council Regulation sole control of Advanced Medical Optics, Inc., United States (“Advance Medical Optics”), by way of a public bid.
Abbott is active in health care products. Advanced Medical Optics is active in eye health care products.
The parties have requested treatment under the Commission Notice on a simplified procedure for treatment of certain concentrations under Council Regulation (EC) No. 139/2004.
