SECTION 1.2
Description of the concentration
On 30 October 2024, the European Commission received a notification of a proposed concentration involving the acquisition of 100% of the shares in and sole control, within the meaning of Article 3(1)(b) EU Merger Regulation, of Uniper Hungary Energetikai Kft., Hungary (“Uniper Hungary”) by Veolia Invest Hungary Zrt., part of the Veolia group ultimately controlled by Veolia Environnement S.A., France.
Veolia is active globally in water, waste, and energy management solutions. In Hungary, the energy branch of Veolia notably operates several power plants and district heating networks.
Uniper Hungary owns and operates the Gönyű combined cycle gas turbine power plant, which has an installed capacity of 428 MW, and is situated in the north-western part of Hungary.
The Transaction is part of Veolia’s strategy to play a key role in energy transition notably in Hungary.
